The Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA), Division of Microbiology at the CHEO site invites applications for a full-time academic Medical Microbiology position.

Candidates must have an MD degree and hold or be eligible for certification in Medical Microbiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent and be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

EORLA is a member-owned, not-for-profit organization providing laboratory services for 16 hospitals/18 sites within the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) of Eastern Ontario. EORLA provides comprehensive diagnostic testing in the areas of general bacteriology, pediatric bacteriology, mycology, Mycobacteriology, virology and molecular microbiology.

The successful candidate will become a member of a group of 6 medical/clinical microbiologists providing regional coverage for microbiology in the Champlain LHIN. The position is based at the CHEO with the primary responsibility of providing pediatric medical microbiology service. The candidate is also expected to assume clinical and administrative responsibilities within the EORLA Regional Microbiology Reference Laboratory located at The Ottawa Hospital. In addition, the candidate is expected to provide consultation/coverage at additional sites within the EORLA Hospital Network as needed. Participation in the microbiology regional on-call roster, teaching and residency training program is required. The development of an individual or collaborative research program is strongly encouraged. This position includes a fulltime appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Candidates must have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team. Experience in pediatric microbiology and special skills that complement and fulfill the needs of the EORLA Microbiology laboratory would be assets. Written and oral French would be an asset as EORLA provides services in both of Canada’s official languages.
