The Public Health Laboratory (ProvLab), Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a board certified clinical microbiologist to join the ProvLab team. The Public Health Laboratory (ProvLab) has been in existence for over 100 years, and operates under Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL).

Our collaborative partners include other laboratories in Alberta, numerous academic departments at the University of Calgary and University of Alberta, as well as Public Health Laboratory partners in other provinces.  The core functions of ProvLab include (but are not restricted to) testing for pathogens of public health significance, population-based screening, laboratory surveillance to support cluster detection and disease trends of public health significance, specialized diagnostic testing, environmental water testing, education, and research.

The successful candidate will be required to provide diagnostic microbiology consultation, and laboratory and technical expertise. The ideal candidate will also have experience and be knowledgeable in other areas of the ProvLab including: virology, mycobacteriology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and environmental microbiology.  The successful candidate must demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills, and an ability to work in a faced paced, team-orientated environment.  This individual will participate in the undergraduate and post-graduate training programs of the University of Alberta, and develop an ongoing research program that complements the activities of ProvLab. The successful candidate will be considered for an academic appointment with the University of Alberta.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience ($128,000-$181,000). A comprehensive package of benefits is also available, including relocation assistance.

Educational Requirements: Board Certified PhD, certified as a clinical microbiologist either as a Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists (FCCM) or Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology, FRCPath Microbiology or equivalent.
