Trillium Health Partners is seeking a temporary full time Clinical Microbiologist with expertise in Molecular Microbiology. In tandem with a medical microbiologist, the successful candidate will provide oversight of the microbiology laboratory testing, including the development, evaluation and validation of new test methodologies, and will communicate with end-users regarding test interpretation and utilization. Additionally, the clinical microbiologist will support the laboratory quality management program and biosafety program. The successful candidate must have experience in molecular microbiology, demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills, and work well in a team-orientated environment. Experience in the development of laboratory-developed tests is an asset.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Provide clinical leadership for the Microbiology Laboratory including diagnostic and clinical expertise in microbiology testing to ensure quality performance and accurate results
  • Verification and validation of new tests
  • Participation in accreditation reviews
  • Provide microbiology consultations to medical staff and other allied health professionals
  • Liaise with medical staff on utilization, quality, accessibility and reliability of laboratory services as they pertain to Medical Microbiologs


  • Board-certified/eligible Clinical Microbiologists, certified as a Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists (FCCM) or Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Microbiology (D(ABMM)), or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of IQMH requirements for Microbiology
  • Specialty Certification in Molecular Microbiology by the Canadian College of Microbiologists is an asset
  • Experience in the development of laboratory-developed tests is an asset
  • Experience in molecular microbiology

  • Ability to work well in a team-orientated environment
