Unity Health Toronto and the University of Toronto’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology are seeking applications from qualified and highly motivated individuals to fill a full-time Locum position for Medical or Clinical Microbiologists to assist in managing the Unity Health Toronto St Michael’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Health Centre Microbiology laboratories during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unity Health cares for patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases, including patients with HIV, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis and travel associated diseases. The Microbiology Laboratories of the hospital processes specimens in the areas of general bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and molecular based techniques.

The start date is flexible and the position is expected to last approximately 6 months. The successful candidates will provide excellence in Microbiology practice. Willingness to participate after hours call would be preferred.

The candidate should have an MD degree and hold certification in Medical Microbiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or a comparable organization, or have a PhD with recognized certification in Clinical Microbiology. Expertise in molecular diagnostics is an asset. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or be able to work in Canada.

Evaluation of applications will begin March 30th, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
