An optional third year may be spent conducting an applied translational research project. The purpose of the program is to train those who wish to pursue a career as a clinical microbiologist in a laboratory where both medical microbiology and applied research activities are conducted. Training encompasses clinical laboratory rotations, didactic lectures, hospital rounds and clinical seminars covering all aspects of clinical microbiology.
