The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Eastern Health Authority invites applications for a full-time Clinical Microbiologist position to serve in the Division of the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Health and Microbiology Laboratory (PHML).

Eastern Health (EH) is the largest Regional Health Authority (RHA) of four RHA’s in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, serving St. John’s and the Eastern region. The city of St. John’s has four large tertiary care centers; the Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre and the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre. These are also the academic hospitals in the Province, and serve as provincial referral centers and as the major teaching hospitals for Memorial University, Faculty of Medicine.

The PHML offers a wide range of routine, specialized and reference services for the entire province in public health and acute care adult and pediatric clinical microbiology. The successful candidate will join a busy team of Clinical Biochemists, Molecular Geneticists, Cytogeneticists, Medical Microbiologists and Pathologists, and provide state of the art laboratory services.

Reporting to the Director and Division Chief, the successful candidate will have analytical/technical supervisory and clinical service responsibilities for the PHML located in St. John’s. This will also cover health care facilities in Carbonear, Clarenville and Burin, with interactions with other RHA clinical microbiology laboratories in the Province, and include providing relevant expert clinical microbiology information to all physicians, laboratories, public health and other allied health care professionals as required. This position offers the opportunity to work in IQMH accredited laboratories striving to provide high quality standardized public health and clinical microbiology services across the Province.
