St. Joseph’s Health Centre, an academic community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking applications from qualified and highly motivated individuals to fill the position of Clinical Microbiologist within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Our Hospital cares for adult and pediatric patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases. It serves the west end of Toronto community with close to 97,000 ER visits per year. The Microbiology Laboratory processes 56,000 specimens per year, in the areas of general bacteriology, and molecular diagnostics.
The successful candidate will collaborate with and provide consultative services to a dynamic team of professionals in the microbiology laboratory, infection prevention and control program, antimicrobial stewardship program, and other physicians and healthcare professionals. It is expected that the candidate has sufficient experience and expertise to lead the development and implementation of new molecular microbiology tests and facilitate the delivery of innovative, high quality, full service microbiology. The microbiologist will participate in the laboratory quality management and biosafety programs. It is expected that the microbiologist will engage in academic research, teaching and other creative professional activities.
Candidates should have a PhD degree and hold certification in Clinical Microbiology, FCCM board-certified or equivalent.
