The Newfoundland and Labrador Public Health Laboratory (PHL) is a division of the Provincial Department of Health and Community Services, providing a comprehensive range of reference, diagnostic and specialized services in clinical and public health microbiology including infectious disease serology, virology, mycology, bacteriology, parasitology, molecular diagnostics, water and food testing and Tuberculosis testing (Biosafety Level III).
Duties:
The successful applicant will, in conjunction with the laboratory director, provide clinical and technical oversight to appropriate areas of the laboratory in order to enhance laboratory operations and capacity.
- Interpretation and verification of results
- Involvement in policy and SOP preparation
- Responsibility for quality assurance performance within the department
- Responsibility for achieving and maintaining full accreditation with Ontario Laboratory Accreditation ISO 15189, or an equivalent agency
- Business planning, including the assessment and introduction of new methods
- Service as a resource for laboratory staff
- Development and evaluation of diagnostic technologies
- Provincial public health activities
- Support the healthcare professionals and the Department of Health and Community Services regarding laboratory utilization, test selection, result interpretation, and consultation.
